Fort Lee Remains Undefeated After Dominating Win Over North Bergen

The Fort Lee Bridgemen (8-0) maintained their perfect season with a convincing 40-14 victory over the North Bergen Bruins (6-2) at Dr. Alan W. Sugarman Sports Complex in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Fort Lee received the opening kickoff and quickly moved down the field, aided by a series of offsides penalties called against the North Bergen defense.

With less than eight minutes left in the first quarter, on first and goal at the Bruins' three-yard line, quarterback Luke Senatore took the direct snap and ran to the left side of the line to score a touchdown, giving Fort Lee a 6-0 lead.

Late in the quarter, the Bridgemen extended their advantage to 14-0 with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Senatore to running back Caleb Park.

In the second quarter, North Bergen responded with a scoring drive of their own. Starting at their own 24-yard line, the Bruins advanced the ball into Fort Lee territory, led by solid running from quarterback Dominyk Velazquez, who also showcased his passing skills with a 32-yard completion.

On first down at the Bridgemen's 16-yard line, running back Alexier De Leon took the handoff and broke free into the end zone, narrowing the deficit to 14-7 with less than ten minutes remaining in the half.

The back-and-forth action continued as Fort Lee's offense began at their own 42-yard line. Senatore completed two passes to wide receiver CJ Senatore, including a crucial fourth down and eight at the North Bergen 26-yard line.

On first and goal at the five-yard line, Luke Senatore finished the drive by finding the edge on the right side and scoring another touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-7 with six and a half minutes to go.

The Bridgemen's defense made a pivotal play, forcing a turnover on North Bergen's next possession. Caleb Park recovered a fumble at the 44-yard line, setting up another Fort Lee scoring opportunity.

Once again, Luke Senatore connected with CJ Senatore for a 27-yard completion. Demonstrating his elusiveness, he gained five yards on a fourth down to keep the drive alive.

Fort Lee moved the ball inside the five-yard line, and on third and goal at the one-yard line, Luke Senatore charged across the goal line for another touchdown, expanding the margin to 27-7 with just 13 seconds left in the half.

With seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, North Bergen relied on the rushing duo of Velazquez and De Leon to advance the ball into Fort Lee territory. Velazquez ripped off a 35-yard run, bringing the ball to the Fort Lee 12-yard line, where De Leon capped off the drive with his second rushing touchdown of the game, narrowing the margin to 27-14 at the five-minute mark.

Just when it seemed the Bruins were closing the gap, the Bridgemen responded emphatically. Luke Senatore threw a 58-yard pass to CJ Senatore, moving the ball to the North Bergen 20-yard line. The connection between the Senatore brothers continued as they connected on a 12-yard pass that moved the ball to the five-yard line.

On first and goal, Luke Senatore rolled out of the pocket to his right and lobbed a pass to wide receiver Azel Orta, who caught the ball in the back of the end zone for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 33-14 with two and a half minutes left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Fort Lee sealed the game when running back Josh DeHoyos took the handoff and burst through a hole in the defense, sprinting to the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown, bringing the final score to 40-14.

Fort Lee will return to action on Wednesday, October 29th, facing Ridgefield Park (6-2) in the Super Football Conference Ivy League Championship Game with kickoff set for 6 p.m. at North Hudson Park in North Bergen, New Jersey.
