Mount Olive's Offense Erupts in Second Half, Securing Win Over Morristown

The Mount Olive Marauders (4-0) showcased a potent offense, led by Brayden Longo's four touchdowns, as they defeated the Morristown Colonials (2-3) with a score of 41-17 at Morristown High School in New Jersey.

Morristown opened the scoring on its second offensive play, with quarterback Weston Elms throwing a 77-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jasiah Brown, igniting cheers from the home crowd.

Mount Olive responded by returning the ensuing kickoff to their own 30-yard line. Running back Brayden Longo displayed his physicality and speed, effectively running the ball on the first four plays, moving it to midfield.

The Marauders adjusted their strategy to incorporate the passing game, with quarterback Frank Gallo completing multiple passes. However, they quickly returned to their running game, with Brayden Longo scoring three consecutive touchdowns, including an 11-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 7-6 in favor of Morristown with less than six minutes remaining in the first quarter.

A Kenneth Sharperson interception gave Morristown a boost with three and a half minutes left in the first quarter. Their offense kept the drive alive into the second quarter, advancing into Mount Olive territory.

Despite pushing forward, Mount Olive's defense held firm, with linebacker Jared Martini recording a sack. A fumble on fourth down resulted in a turnover on downs.

Feeding off the defensive momentum, Mount Olive quickly took the lead for the first time when Brayden Longo broke free for a spectacular 79-yard touchdown run.

The Marauders appeared poised to extend their lead late in the quarter. Still, the Colonials' defense, led by linebacker Mason Wesner and defensive lineman Edwin Fajardo, thwarted their efforts with a significant sack that forced a turnover on downs.

With renewed energy, Morristown moved the ball swiftly down the field, aided by the strong arm of quarterback Weston Elms, who connected on four consecutive passes. Despite a couple of incomplete passes, Elms successfully drove the Colonials into scoring position, culminating in a 27-yard field goal by kicker Kenneth Sharperson as time expired, leaving Mount Olive ahead 13-10 at halftime.

Morristown received the ball to start the second half and quickly advanced into the Marauders' 20-yard line. Weston Elms threw a deep pass, and wide receiver Jasiah Brown made an impressive catch in double coverage while falling to the ground.

After progressing to the six-yard line, the Colonials faced a crucial fourth down, which they converted successfully with Kenneth Sharperson powering into the end zone, putting Morristown back in front 17-13 with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Mount Olive responded with a renewed offense. Brayden Longo dashed for a 27-yard run, pushing the ball into the Colonials' territory. After a brief rest for Longo, Malcolm Gilyard took over running duties, eventually scoring a six-yard touchdown that allowed the Marauders to regain the lead at 20-17 with two and a half minutes left in the quarter.

Morristown managed to regroup and moved the ball quickly into Mount Olive territory, using a mix of run and pass plays. However, they faced a fourth down at the Marauders' 41-yard line, which ended poorly when defensive back Justin Reed intercepted the pass.

Mount Olive capitalized on this opportunity as Brayden Longo torched the defense with another impressive run deep into Morristown's end.

On second down at the ten-yard line, quarterback Frank Gallo took the snap and powered into the end zone for the score, extending the lead with six and a half minutes remaining.

Mount Olive's defense forced the Colonials into a quick three-and-out. Still, the following punt provided another highlight for Brayden Longo, who caught the punt and sprinted 68 yards to the end zone, scoring another touchdown with four minutes left.

Longo capped off his outstanding performance with a final 27-yard touchdown run, sealing the victory for Mount Olive.

The Marauders will return to action on Saturday, October 4th, against Morris Knolls (2-3) with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. at Morris Knolls High School. Meanwhile, Morristown will travel to face Old Bridge (4-1), with a kickoff set for 6 p.m.
